We teach the subject in an intriguing way, using a variety of methods and aim to instil a love for the subject. Our goal is for every student to be able to participate confidently in and out of the classroom and learn how to apply what has been taught in everyday life.
Within the Mathematics department, we:
- Recognise and encourage achievement
- Promote problem-solving and resilience when tackling the challenging aspects of the subject
- Set high expectations and require all students to bring the correct equipment such as calculators, compasses and protractors
- Provide a differentiated learning environment that develops students of a diverse range of abilities
- Set weekly homework, with the use of ICT to extend and enhance the learning experience
- Encourage all students to take responsibility for their own learning
We offer excellent and exciting out of classroom activities through Mathematics including the UK Maths Challenge were students have been awarded Silver Certificates, the Rubik’s Cube Challenge, World Maths Day, Pi Day and the annual Harris March Maths Month.
The department has outstanding teachers that work tirelessly to ensure that all students achieve or surpass their target grades and set a firm foundation to pursue any further education.
