Maths on upward curve
Meet three of our year 11 students (pictured below) who achieved A and B grades when they took their Maths GCSE in November, around six months ahead of schedule.
Bukola, year 11, says: “Maths is about practice. I like algebra because it’s really rewarding when you get the answer right.”
Yasmin, year 11, says: “I did well partly because I went to all the revision lessons. I’d like to do Maths A level.
Asmana, year 11, says: “The Maths we do really helps with my science too, especially Physics.”
Challenging targets
Our new Head of Maths, Alison Thompson, is setting challenging targets for students and creating engaging lessons to help make sure they reach them.
“We’re delighted with the progress students are making,” she says. Some students have progressed five levels since the end of primary school, compared to a government target of three levels.
“We also introduce Maths and numeracy across the curriculum, including in subjects like Science, Geography and History,” says Alison,
Statistics is now taught too, with 100% of students achieving A*-C grades in their most recent GCSE exams.
