Greenwich Observatory welcomes 130 Harris students
18 March 2014
Students who are part of the Harris Experience programme enjoyed a trip to Greenwich Observatory earlier in the week. The day consisted of a tour around the observatory learning about the paintings, maps, clocks and other objects, as well as the history of the house.
Students then split into groups, working with a total of 130 pupils from other Harris academies. They had special sessions calculating speed, distance and time, and also enjoyed a trip to the planetarium where they watched a show about the earth, galaxy and stars.
“The planetarium was the highlight of the day because we were able to learn about things and in ways that we don’t get the chance to in school," said Shahanaz Ahmed. "The planetarium was a huge room with chairs that went back so that we were viewing everything on the ceiling. It made me realise just how big the universe is!”
As part of our 'gifted and talented' programme we have had one Year 11 student accepted to go on a residential science course this Easter for three days at Cambridge University, and six students have got into the Westminster Summer School for one week over the summer holidays.
