Our Chickens are Here! - Pictures
Finally the chickens have arrived, after months of preparation. Their previous home was in the heart of London Docklands next to Canary wharf, where they enjoyed a busy life amongst turkeys, roosters and other breeds of chicken.
Six students from years 7 and 8 were chosen to become science leaders, because of their interest in science and their excellent behaviour around the school. They attended a course on how to keep chickens at Mudchute farm.
These girls are teaching other girls on all aspects of chicken rearing, including what to do if the chickens becomes ill, and what to feed them in the winter, all the way to preparing treats and how to look after and store the eggs.
Students have learnt how to create and manage a project including factorising in cost of maintaining livestock. The chickens have also been a good resource for educating students about variation and genetics, and disease and prevention of illness including the anatomy of the animal.
