National Theatre - behind the scenes

National Theatre trip 29.4.15Year 8 English students visited the National Theatre recently to watch a film of their 2009 production of Othello, starring Adrian Lister and Rory Kinnear, which was filmed by the National Theatre Archive.

The archive is responsible for keeping a record of all their productions, including recordings and production materials such as set-design models.  Anyone can request time in the screening room to view past productions, which is a great resource for designers, academics and students too.

Back stage

After the screening, the group walked down to the South Bank and went on a tour of the National Theatre, including the back stage areas and scenographic workshops.

Students learnt about the three theatres at the National and about the technical capacities of the iconic building.

For many it was the first time they had watched a play by Shakespeare in its entirety and it helped bolster the student’s knowledge of the plot before they start studying Othello in further detail this term.
