Hands Up for Health at St Thomas' Hospital
Year 9 Health and Social Care students visited St Thomas’ Hospital to visit the Simulation and Interactive Learning (SaIL) centre.
Following a day’s training here at school, they took park in simulations for real medical emergencies and practices including drawing blood, sewing stiches, resuscitation and general practice role-play. The centre has incredibly impressive facilities which allow for a very engaging experience.
Staff were all NHS practitioners who volunteer two days a year to take-part in the training. Students had the opportunity to work with paramedics, consultant surgeons and midwives. This provided an excellent opportunity for our Health and Social Science students to ask questions and get a sense for professions within the health service that they could aim for.
Certain students were awarded certificates based on various aptitudes, including Lauryn Tomlin who won two tickets to go on the London Eye!
