Christmas Shoe Box Appeal 2015
Our students have filled 90 shoe boxes full of Christmas gifts that will be sent to refugees in Eastern Europe through a charity called Link to Hope.
The boxes contained items for children, families and older people including gloves, hats, candles, shampoo, shower gel, sewing kits, pens and pencils, colouring books, simple solar-powered calculators and hair accessories – items unavailable or beyond the reach of many people in the places to which the boxes are sent.
Only new items were included and each box was wrapped in festive paper (pictured here ready for collection).
World Food Day
For World Food Day on October 16, students were also set a two-week challenge to create a 'food mountain' by bringing in items such as powdered milk, sugar, pasta sauces, tinned tomatoes, cereals, rice, jam and tinned fruit.
Over 1,000 items were collected and will be given to our local foodbank.
Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That's about one in nine people on earth. Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five. That's 3.1 million children each year, equivalent to all the students in our school x 3600.
