‘Book Bugs’ Literacy Volunteer Project
Eight students in Year 7 have started a volunteer project at our neighbouring school Harris Primary Academy.
On Friday 20 November we took eight Year 7 students over to lend a hand with the Reception class and offer some direct one-to-one support with their reading and literacy skills.
The Reception children were ecstatic to see our older girls and they read their books proudly to them. Some children were able to read the book from start to finish and others needed some help with their sounds, pronunciation and ‘tricky words’.
Our Year 7s then read back to the children and asked them questions about what they had learnt from the story. The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Year 7 girls and waved them goodbye until next Friday when we visit them once again.
