Mistura, Year 10, Plays Lady Macbeth at Young Vic
On January 28th a parallel production of Macbeth opened at the Young Vic Theatre with Mistura Olusanya, from Year 10, playing Lady Macbeth.
The main production, currently on in the Young Vic, incorporates contemporary dance, so this shorter piece told the story entirely through movement.
It was physically challenging for the performers and very engaging for the audience. The costume and set were simple yet stylised and versatile.
"Powerful and nuanced"
"Mistura gave a powerful and nuanced performance as Lady Macbeth and she was always a positive and encouraging member of the company," said Sharon Kanolik, Participation Projects Manager at the Young Vic. "It was brilliant to see Mistura’s confidence and performance skills grow during this project and we’d love to work with other students from Harris Girls' in future."
While the ensemble worked very well together, the portrayal of Lady Macbeth, as vulnerable, strong, determined and supportive was captivating. This was a sensitive and exceptional performance.
Well done Mistura.
Mistura got the part after the academy was sent information about auditions. We suggested Mistura attend, which she did, and got the part!
