Count on us Maths Tournament
We held our our first ‘Count on us Maths’ in-school tournament recently, for our keenest Maths enthusiasts in Year 8 and 9.
All 26 students have been attending valuable after-school Maths sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays where they could practice and brush up on their Maths skills. The competition was a chance for these students to prove their exceptional skills at these tasks, with the hope of being selected to compete in the Challenge Tournament against 48 schools in April 2016.
The tournament ran in three parts: shape puzzles; a game of 24; and an exciting code breaking spy-themed activity. Students had a chance to create their very of ‘Tower of Hanoi’ using themselves only and played ‘Frogs’ to learn about patterns in the sequence of moves. The shape puzzles involved creating different shapes using a set of wooden tangrams, a set of pentaminos and a soma cube.
Every task was timed and scored by Miss Hearle and Miss Pangasa and the results are being processed. By the end of the week five lucky students will be nominated to go through to the Count on us Secondary Challenge heats on April 13 at City Hall.
Well done to everyone who took part and good luck to the team of five students who get through to the heats!
