Kings College Science Day for Year 9
Year 9 science students were very excited to be selected to attend the Kings College science day.
The day started with a mini lecture by Professor Phil Whitfield, renowned professor of parasitology. After the lecture he split the students into two groups to take a closer look at the clusters of speciments like the squid, jellyfish, snail, earthworm and locust.
The students investigated the movements of the specimens in their group. This was very interactive and the students really enjoyed it. Leneshia said, “I enjoyed this because we actually got to learn how the specimens use locomotion in different ways”.
The second part of the lecture looked at muscles cells and the proteins within them. They studied the way the muscles contracted when in movement and what happens with these actions.
This comment from Etta summed up the day “This was a really enjoyable day and I learnt lots of things I can use in physics”.
