Students Donate £6,000 to Local Heart Charity
Students have raised over £12,000 this year through our social enterprise HOPE (Helping Others Promoting Enterprise).
Half of the money was donated to ECHO (Evelina Children’s Heart Organisation) at St Thomas’ Hospital during a special presentation on Tuesday 28 June.
We have been donating money to ECHO for several years and our visit was an opportunity for students who had been active in fundraising to see first-hand how the money we raise helps children and their families.
The students heard about specific families that their money had helped by, for example, funding family events and buying toys (pictured being delivered below) that are kept in the treasure chest made by our students two years ago. The toy chest is kept in the surgery room and helps to make life easier for children when they visit the hospital.
Most of the money was raised by sales of our cupcakes, which were sold at the Horniman museum and stalls on Northcote Road, and from the sale of student-designed items through the HOPE website.
£6,000 will also be donated to help the communities in south east Uganda, which we have also been supporting for some time now. Read more.
