Year 8 Learn About Slavery During Maritime Museum Trip
Year 8 students visited the Maritime Museum in order to visit the Atlantic Gallery where they viewed artefacts relating to slavery, which they have been studying this term.
Students learned that our taste for sugar, coffee and tobacco led to an explosion of industry which exploited millions of African people through horrific transatlantic deportation and free labour.
The gallery is an important reminder of the significance of this era which saw European nations grow in wealth by the systematic exploitation of African people who lived in bondage for centuries in the Caribbean and southern states of America.
