Girls Play Cricket at the Famous Oval
Eight girls in years 7-9 went to The Oval cricket ground recently for an activity day which saw them playing cricket at the world famous stadium.
The girls took part in a variety of batting, bowling and fielding challenges and were trained by professional coaches from Surrey County Cricket Club.
The England Visual Impairment Cricket Team were also playing that day and we were able to watch and cheer them on.
Surrey players took us on a tour of the historic Oval stadium, currently called the Kia Oval for sponsorship teasons, and we even got to meet Caeser the Lion, Surrey’s very own mascot.
The girls took part in a variety of activities around the stadium, including trying to play cricket while wearing simspecs (simulation spectacles), which replicate visual impairments such as retinal degeneration and loss of vision to promote understanding of visual impairment.
The day was a huge success and it was a wonderful opportunity to support England's visually impaired cricketers in the very famous Oval outfield.
