EAL Students Learn Lessons From 'Wicked'
Our EAL (English additional language) students enjoyed a trip to the Apollo Victoria theatre to see Wicked earlier this half term.
As they all come from different countries, it was a fantastic opportunity for them to see such a performance in English for the first time in their lives. Not only did they learn new words in English in an unusual way, but also made friends with their peers from all around the world.
Before the trip, they learnt the key vocabulary and expressions necessary to understand the show. This active way of learning helps students associate the knowledge with experiences, and, as a result, they are likely to remember it for a long time.
On their way back from the theatre, they were sharing their impressions of the performance with one another in their native languages – Spanish, Ukrainian, Turkish and Romanian.
Every visit to the theatre is beneficial – it develops empathy, communication, and concertation skills. When you watch a musical in a language you’re studying, it becomes a wonderful lesson you will never forget.
