Sixth Formers Watch Old Bailey Trials
Year 13 Criminology and Psychology students spent the morning observing court proceedings at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) last week.
Students have been learning about the journey of a criminal case from the moment it is reported through investigation, prosecution, conviction and then appeal, whilst at the same time thinking about the reasons why people commit crime.
During the visit, students were able to watch three trials and to study first-hand the role of the judge, prosecution and defence, witnesses and court personnel in action.
They were fortunate to observe a judge fulfilling his role as referee and guardian of justice when defence counsel was warned about opening the gateway to bad character evidence and potentially prejudicing the jury.
At the end of the morning, students commented how different court proceedings are from the from the dramatic representations on television!
