Lordship Lane immortalised
East Dulwich shops and businesses have been immortalised in poetry and prose, as part of an English project led by Clare Marks, second in the department.
Students from years 7-11 made special visits to shops and businesses on Lordship Lane and North Cross Road including William Rose, Moxons, East Dulwich Deli, Willow and the Bishop.
‘The idea was to encourage them to do a piece of creative writing rooted in a particular location, by observing and absorbing the details of that place,’ said Ms Marks.

Watch out for our East Dulwich Literary Festival, 25-29 June 2012, organised by staff and students from the Academy.

From Existence, by Ruby Simon
A black hat on my small round wooden table, a black jacket hanging off the empty wooden stool next to me, my empty black brief case beside my feet and the Guardian paper in my hands.
That is what I own, all that I own.
Mirrors, lots of them, on the walls that border me, I try not to look at them as all I would see is the same person, sitting in the same seat with the same possessions with the same facial expression and the same newspaper that is on the same page. Small circular demons are what they are, torturing me, laughing at me and staring at me with conniving eyes.
To the left of me, a dog, a grey dog with deep sorrowful ruby red eyes curled up in his home, which is under a wooden desk with a lamp on top of it. He is surrounded by wooden chairs and tables, people, talking, paintings of unnecessary things that have no meaning to life and the noises of clashing glasses from joyful people cheering to their new job, new home or new life.
