International Women’s Day 2024
Friday the 8th March saw our academy’s celebration of International Women’s Day – the culmination of a week-long series of activities celebrating and promoting women in the workplace and wider world and campaigning for gender equality.
The activities during the week included:
- The History of International Women’s Day, why it was created and its aims
- Leading female figures within each of their subjects
- The opportunity to explore what careers students may consider beyond their GCSEs
- The opportunity to dress in business wear
- Promoting the movement by raising awareness
We also invited a range of women from different businesses to work with our Year 10 pupils. These workshops allowed pupils to interact with experts within their field, finding out about the challenges they have faced within their area, the career path they took, what the job entails and also the variety of roles within that area.
These workshops provided students with an insight into the fields of construction, architecture, pharmaceutical, medical, legal, accounting, beauty and wellbeing, hospitality, emergency services and engineering, to name a few.
The pupils really enjoyed this opportunity, which allowed many to really consider their next steps in both GCSEs, further education and the world of work. We would like to thank all the companies that were kind enough to offer their time and help in inspiring the next generation.
