Students Tell Their Migration Stories

MigrationOur EAL students are preparing to take part in a special exhibition at the Migration Museum, where their own stories of migration will be shared with a wider audience.

This exhibition will highlight Behind Our Accent, a book written by the students that features their personal migration journeys. It’s an incredible opportunity for them to showcase their voices and reflect on the impact of immigration in shaping London’s history and culture.

Recently, the students visited the Migration Museum to begin the collaborative process for their exhibition. This visit was particularly meaningful, as they could strongly relate to many of the museum’s stories and exhibits. Coming from diverse countries and backgrounds, the students could see their own experiences reflected in the powerful narratives about migration, making the visit both emotional and empowering.

Challenges and successes

During the trip, the students participated in a workshop focused on migration, allowing them to reflect on the challenges and successes they have faced as immigrants. It was a chance to recognise the significant role immigrants play in shaping cities like London, and many of the students found it uplifting to see their experiences acknowledged in such an important space.

The students are now working closely with the museum’s staff to develop and prepare their exhibition, which will showcase their personal stories, art and writing. This project is a meaningful opportunity for them to share their experiences with a wider audience and celebrate their contributions to the cultural diversity of London.

We look forward to seeing their work come to life and to the important conversations it will inspire.
