Heading for a Career in the City of London
On Wednesday, 26th February 2025, a group of Year 12 students from Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich participated in We Can Be, an inspiring programme designed to showcase the diverse career opportunities available in the City of London.
The initiative aims to equip young women with essential career-ready skills, empowering them to view the City as an exciting and achievable career destination.
The morning session took place at Liberty Specialty Markets in Fenchurch Street, where students engaged with early-career apprentices, analysts, underwriters, and actuaries.
They also met with the IT team, who encouraged them to explore opportunities in technology, and took part in an interactive session with HR professionals, gaining valuable insights into what City firms look for in a CV. As an added highlight, the students visited the Sky Garden, where they enjoyed breathtaking views of London.
In the afternoon, the students headed to the historic Guildhall for an inspiring session hosted by Dr Joanne Abeyie MBE. A panel discussion featured professionals from Janus Henderson Investors, Lloyds Banking Group, and the Bank of New York, who shared valuable industry insights.
The highlight of the afternoon was the Managing a Portfolio Simulation activity, where students put their analytical skills to the test. Their efforts paid off as they secured first place with their investment portfolio submission.
Overall, it was an enriching and empowering experience, providing students with knowledge, confidence, and inspiration for their future careers.
