‘We Can Be’ – Careers in the City of London
Year 10 and Year 12 students took part in the ‘We Can Be’ project in February – a unique programme aimed at inspiring young women by showcasing the diverse range of careers available in the City of London.
Now in its eighth year, this series of workshops and events empowers young women to view the City as a viable career path, empowering them to make informed decisions about their futures. Harris Dulwich Girls was fortunate to be paired with Schroders asset management company and Liberty Specialty Markets, both based in central London.
Trading shares game
Our Year 10 students were able to engage with a range of Schroders professionals, who explained the various routes into their careers, the skills required, and the role of a company like theirs.
After this, students were taken to the Guildhall where they took part in a trading shares game and met other experts within or connected to this field.
Year 12 students enjoyed a similarly inspirational day, which began at Liberty Specialty Markets, where students engaged with professionals from underwriting, IT, and HR, gaining insights into CV expectations and career pathways. They also enjoyed breathtaking views from the Sky Garden.
Managing a portfolio
In the afternoon, at the historic Guildhall, Dr Joanne Abeyie MBE hosted a panel discussion featuring experts from Janus Henderson Investors, Lloyds Banking Group, and the Bank of New York. The students then excelled in a ‘managing a portfolio’ simulation, securing first place. The day provided invaluable industry exposure, equipping students with skills, confidence and inspiration for their future careers.
We would like to thank Schroders and Liberty Specialty Markets for allowing us into their offices and giving us a fantastic opportunity to explore the world of work in the City. Picture above: Year 10 students with staff from Schroders asset management.
