Author Karen McCombie visits our academy
"I'm definitely coming to this school!" These were the words of a year 5 Goodrich pupil after a visit to Harris Girls' Academy East Dulwich to meet author Karen McCombie.
Nursery and primary school children joined our students for the East Dulwich Literary Festival. The festival included author talks, performance poetry, Shakespearean drama, Greek myths, graphic novel and comic workshops.
"I've seen more authors in one week than in my whole life," said Catherine, year 8. "This has been a good week."
The highlight of the week was the Showcase held at Dulwich Library. Pupils from local primaries packed the library hall to watch our students perform Shakespearean drama and slam poetry, and read stories from pre-festival visits to Lordship Lane, the Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Horniman Museum.
Sandra Agard, Caribbean storyteller, poet and writer was so impressed with the students that she is now looking forward to coming into school to start work on Southwark's Poetry Relay.
