Meet Paul Dingle, new parent governor
Paul Dingle is a new parent governor at Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich. Paul, whose daughter is in year 8, is technical director at Subtv, a broadcast channel for young people aged 18-24.
“I’ve been involved with education all my working life,” says Paul. “It’s hugely important to me so anything I can do to influence and help improve education is something I want to do.”
Voice of parents
As a parent representative on the academy’s governing body, Paul represents all parents at the academy.
“My role is to be the voice for all parents and not just speak from my own experience. Parents want the best for their children and we have a valuable part to play as governors because we have a different viewpoint,” says Paul.
“We don’t necessarily think in terms of targets, league tables or budgets, which means we have a different perspective on things.”
Commitment worth making
Before agreeing to become a governor, Paul checked his employer was willing to do without him so he had time to attend meetings. “It’s a commitment but one I want to make,” says Paul. “I intend to attend everything I can. I don’t trivialise the amount of time it’s going to take but it will be worth it.”
Paul starts as a parent governor this term. “This is a generally very good school and has been called ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement too,” adds Paul.
The Governing Body is responsible, with the Principal, for setting and monitoring the educational direction of the Academy and the targets to be achieved. See a full list of current governors.
