Literacy and numeracy working breakfast
Parents and their daughters were in school on Wednesday 15 May for a ‘literacy and numeracy working breakfast'.
The breakfast session allowed both parents and their daughters to work on practical activities designed to help parents better engage with their daughters and help them make progress in literacy and numeracy over the coming weeks.
Dr. Aylward said: "Families are the first and most enduring influence on a child’s development and play an important role in a child’s learning. Developing strong skills in reading, writing and mathematics is critical to ensure a child’s success in early learning and beyond and is best done when schools, pupils and parents work in partnership.”
Helpful booklets
Parents and our pupils were also given literacy and numeracy booklets full of activities and handy tips for parents to help them continue to support their daughters' progress in literacy and numeracy skills in the coming weeks.
This opportunity for parents to support their daughter’s key numeracy and literacy skills was organised by Dr. Aylward and Ms. Ajetunmobi and also supported by Miss Young.
Further sessions
There will be two further opportunities this year for parents and their daughters to work with the Academy. Parents will be invited by letter shortly before each date:
Saturday June 15th 2013 (9.30-11am)
Monday July 1st July 2013 (8.40-10.20am)
These sessions will be an opportunity to continue to work through activities that support the key skills expected for a year 7 or 8 pupil. Parents will be invited by letter shortly before each date.
Parents will also be able to talk to Dr. Aylward and Ms. Ajetunmobi and share any issues they may have following our first ‘literacy and numeracy working breakfast.’
