An Evening with Dame Harriet Walter
Renowned actress Dame Harriet Walter visited the academy on Thursday 27 June as part of our Shakespeare and Me literary festival.
She spoke about her career, including her work as a classical actress which has taken her from the RSC to Broadway.
Harriet spoke about the role of women in the theatre since the Ancient Greeks, touching on Shakespeare, Chekhov, John Osborne and all points in between. She considered whether women need special treatment in the parts they are writing, or can we all as audiences draw inspiration from characters and plays, whatever their gender or focus?
She also explained the processes she goes through to bring Shakespeare's characters to life, and touched on the issues facing women in the media, all seen through her vast experience.
A massive 'thank you' to Dame Harriet Walter for making this such a stimulating evening.
