Students perform surgery at Imperial College
Six lucky students from Harris Girls’ Academy and Harris Post-16 were invited to Imperial College London, to take part in a simulated hands-on surgery.
The guest presenters were Professor Roger Kneebone and Lord Robert Winston, famous for his pioneering research into fertility as well as programmes such as The Human Body and Child of our Time.
Students participated in a rat dissection, minor surgery to remove a lipoma and major surgery to treat a simulated knife-wound victim. The simulation was very realistic and gave students an amazing insight into the world of medicine.
Sophie Franklinos, Y10 said: 'Removing the lipoma was really enjoyable and made me definitely consider a job in medicine.'
Tajwar Rahman, Y12 said: 'It’s been very useful and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve been thinking about surgery and this has definitely inspired me.'
