Race for Life raises £938
28 June 2014
On the 27 June 2014, over 200 young ladies from HGAED took part in the school's very first Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research, writes Miss Strong.
The race was held on Peckham Rye with the young ladies having to complete a substantial amount of laps around a pinkly-decorated track to reach their 5km goal.
Eager and enthusiastic
The ladies came out in full force, enthusiastic and eager to be part of such a worthy cause. Students such as Sharday, Lamya, Sahro and Demi Jade put in a huge amount of effort to keep running throughout the lesson whilst others such as Jade Packman and Danielle Adu challenged themselves by completing part of the course using cart wheels.
A further well done to students Courtney and Megan for dressing in their Cancer Research t-shirts for the occasion.
National Sports Week
The ladies had spent the week taking part in National School Sports week leading up to the Friday, so had spent their PE lessons taking part in activities such as roller-skating, dance, tennis and basketball; many of them commenting on how the race was a nice way to finish such a positive week.
Although many of the students running were doing so in the normal PE lessons, there were a number of ladies that had also made an effort to organise coming out of their scheduled lessons to be part of the race, as well as the older years using their own time after school. This demonstrates the good and charitable nature of many of the students within our school and is something as a teacher I am extremely proud of!
£938 raised
Overall the school has raised £938 – not bad for our first go. Ella Telling in year 7 won the prize for raising the most money individually with £120. Well done Ella. Sharday Reid came in second fastest with Lamya Illou coming first. Well done ladies!
This was a fantastic achievement and something that the school looks forward to building on in the future.
