Latin Students Experience Roman London
A lucky group of Year 10 GCSE Latin students were selected to take part in an interactive Roman London workshop at the Museum of London last month.
The day involved a presentation session to enhance students’ knowledge of Roman civilisation in Britain and specifically focused on London life during the Roman times. Students were given a talk on Roman invasion and settlement, archaeology, trade and religion, and discussion of these topics with an expert curator.
After a short break, the group attended an ‘object handling’ meeting which focused on different aspects of Roman life and the process of Romanisation with an opportunity to handle Roman artefacts.
To enhance and apply their learning they looked around the Roman London gallery and other parts of the museum across different time periods including ‘Medieval London’, ‘War, Plague and Fire’ and ‘Expanding City’ galleries.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the day as it was directly related to their Cambridge Latin curriculum which they have been studying with Ms Simpson in their GCSE Latin classes.
