Year 9 Maths Students Visit City University
A selected number of Year 9 Maths students attended a City University London open day on Wednesday 14 January 2015.
Upon their arrival students were given an introduction to higher education and discussed ‘Why go to university?’ in groups with current university ambassadors.
Following from this was a ‘Meet the Ambassador’ session where they had a round robin discussion and great conversation with each of the ambassadors, with the chance to ask them anything about their university experiences so far.
Leading on from this was an interactive group-based activity which helped students discover different subjects and careers available across a wide range of UK universities. Students then thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour of the facilities that City University offers; including the library, student study rooms, fitness centre, lecture halls and seminar rooms.
During the last part of the day, we met the Head Professor of the City’s Maths department, who engaged the group in a Maths cryptography workshop involving coding and de-coding a mystery message.
The day was a fantastic opportunity for students to gain a real experience of what university life would be like, to meet some current ambassadors studying at City and to discuss subject and career pathways for their future.
