GCSE Revision Workshop to Remember
Every student in Year 11 took part in a two hour revision skills workshop on Wednesday 25th February, led by Sarah from the company called Learning Performance.
Students gained key learning and memorising techniques for their upcoming summer Maths GCSE exams. They were taught how your memory works and how the brain functions. Pupils were then shown a variety of different revision techniques from imagination to the ‘image chain’ and the ‘Loci’ technique. Students demonstrated how to be creative when revising for Maths and a variety of other subjects across their curriculum.
"Fabulous tips"
Omaymah Belhaj-Fahsi said ‘I have learnt my learning type and some fabulous tips that will hopefully allow me to achieve success. I’m going to change my revision plan and take more breaks. A massive thank you to Sarah for coming in and radiating such positive and enthusiastic energy’.
During the second hour of the workshop students were given top tips on how to manage time when tackling maths questions and how to show full workings and highlight key words in exam questions. They replaced numbers 0 to 9 with pictures and used this technique to remember formulae for the area of a circle and other important GCSE equations.
Skills into action
Applying what they’ve learnt during this workshop, already pupils have been demonstrating these techniques in the classroom; Shanaya Wallace during Miss Muringapasi’s maths lesson this morning answered a worded question by drawing pictures first to help her remember it, as she has discovered she is more of a ‘visual learner’.
Angelie Dyra Aquino rated the session excellent and quoted ‘I have learnt different ways to revise and how every technique suits people differently. I found it very useful and it opened my mind about different ways to memorise what we have learnt in Maths’.
The workshop was a fantastic day crammed with exam preparation, memory techniques and strategies for success in planning for their GCSE’s at the end of the academic year which we wish them the best of luck for.
