Campaigning Underway for our Election 2015
As students prepare to go to polls in our own general election on May 7, campaigning at the academy has begun in earnest.
Conservative councillor Jane Lyons and Naomi Newstead, the Conservative candidate for Camberwell and Peckham (pictured right with student campaigners), visited the academy on 22 April to talk to our Year 9 Citizenship students.
Rashid Nix, the Green Party candidate (pictured below), was also present and gave a talk on how politicians are here to help.
The students then broke into groups to come up with three things that they would like to change for their local area. The local politicians were impressed when students came up with ideas including cleaner streets, a school bus to take students who live in a particular area to school, and allowing younger people to vote.
The girls representing each political party thoroughly took to the campaign experience and talked about new ideas for the next one. The parties represented at our own election are Conservative, DUP, Green, Labour, Liberal Democrat, Plaid Cymru, SNP and UKIP.
Next campaign meeting will be on Monday 27 April so look out for the girls and, remember, your vote counts.
