Oxbridge Group meets Shami Chakrabarti
Our Oxbridge group had a fantastic inaugural event on Tuesday when they went to hear Shami Chakrabarti, the director of Liberty, the British civil liberties advocacy organisation, in a ‘public conversation’ at the London School of Economics.
There was an initial introduction to her book On Liberty and then an open forum chaired by Professor Connor Gearty from LSE.
One of our students was given the chance to ask a question, and was praised by the chair and Shami Chakrabarti for her eloquence and clearly articulated point. She was praised as an example of how to stand up to misogyny, Islamaphobia and the potential loss of Human Rights. All the girls were a real credit to the academy.
The students have all got copies of the book to read over and prepare for a ‘working lunch’ discussion prior to a full debate about Human Rights legislation.
