Students Explore Ocean Research Vessel, Discovery
To celebrate 50 years of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), the vessel RRS Discovery moored up in London from 6-12 October 2015.
Our Year 8 Science students were able to experience a really stimulating day on the ship, which is specially designed to carry on oceanographic research at sea.
They met some of NERC’s scientists, engineers and technicians who work at sea and members of the ship’s crew who were in attendance to explain how the ship works.
There were many exhibits to view and technology on show. The students got to visit the hangar area of the ship and saw a live demonstration of iconic remotely-operated vehicle, Isis.
They thoroughly enjoyed their time on board and the staff really enjoyed their enthusiasm.
