Mawa competes in national athletics finals
Student Mawa Diaby has been selected to compete in the Aviva Sportshall UK national athletics finals in Birmingham on April 3rd - the athletics development event of the year.
Mawa will be running for the South London All Stars athletics team as they bid to be crowned national Aviva Sportshall champions.
The All Stars made it to the finals after winning their regional heat earlier this month and will now compete against 11 other teams in the final.
Under-15 running
Mawa will compete in the under-15 running category while other young athletes will take part in events including long jump, triple jump, vertical jump, shot and speed bounce.
‘Mawa has brilliantly taken the transition from school to athletics club training,’ says her coach, Debbie Cook of the South London All Stars, which is based at Crystal Palace. ‘I was very proud that Mawa made selection for the team.’
Opportunities
Mawa trains at the academy after school on Friday and also at the athletics club on Tuesday and Thursday in Tooting Bec. ‘There are so many opportunities in athletics and great that Mawa has made the decision to be a part of it all,’ says coach Debbie.
The Aviva Sportshall Finals will bring together leading teams and individuals from across the UK gather to contest for national honours. Previous Sportshall champions have included Mark Lewis-Francis and Kelly Sotherton.
