On the 12th Day of Christmas…
Students attend performance of A Christmas Carol in the heart of Theatreland starring Jim Broadbent.
Year 10 students, who are studying Dickens and lower school students who took advantage of available tickets had a brilliant start to 2016 on their third day back at school.
The Dickensian classic is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the tight-fisted and uncompassionate banker who regains the spirit of Christmas after being visited by three ghosts who show him scenes from Christmas past, present and future.
The production at the Noel Coward Theatre was light-hearted, traditional and very festive. There was an effective use of puppetry to conjure characters as well as the notion of time travel.
There was a modern emphasis on the theme of poverty and charity, which got the audience applauding spontaneously in places!
The experience brought the text to life for many students and we hope that they will carry images of the show with them into their understanding of the novel and their exams!
