Healthy Eating Week 2016 - Highlights
Our annual Healthy Eating Week, which took place last week, encourages students to eat healthily and become more active.
In the run-up to the week, we held a healthy eating poster competition. Students were asked to design a poster promoting healthy eating, with the winning poster being displayed around the academy. We had a lot of entries to choose from, but our three winners were:
1st Place (pictured) – Ayesha Omari and Fathia Giwa-Yakuba, Year 7
2nd and 3rd Place – Rosie Grehan and Chanice Gayle, Year 7
Quiz
The week began with a quiz to test students’ knowledge of healthy eating. We had an overwhelming number of submissions but huge congratulations to the winners Zameelah Mohammad, Shamari Clarke-White and Tabitha Wanlongo, and well done to all who took part too.
Cook off
Tuesday witnessed a ‘cook off’ between students and staff. Ms Clarke and Ms Stewart were in the staff corner while Annalee McDough, Niara Morgan, Aleah Theobald and Shamari Clarke-White represented students.
The aromas that wafted through the DT rooms were amazing, as was the presentation and taste of the food.
But despite so many delicious dishes, there could only be one winner: Ms Clarke’s beautiful braised pak choi ramen.
Sport
During the week Mr Spas ran a sports workshop, giving students a chance to try different sporting activities. Year 9s enjoyed quick cricket while the Year 7s did a series of endurance running and cardio workouts and the Year 8s enjoyed a game of volley ball. Mr Spas said “the students thoroughly enjoyed the activities and wanted me to do more”.
Cook-along
Cook-along activities brought the week to a close, with years 7 and 8 taking part. Students followed a video and created some wonderful healthy sandwiches and stir fry meals.
What people said
Cheyanne said: “This is the best healthy eating week and I am glad that I got to enjoy it before I left”. Ms Clarke said “More cooking competitions please”.
Thanks to everyone for making the week such a success.
