Design and Technology Day with IBM and Shell
Eight students selected by the design and technology department attended an event hosted by IBM and Shell earlier this week at the IBM HQ on London’s Southbank.
The day consisted of talks from CEOs and senior leaders of both organisations to talk about their experience of studying STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, maths) and its impact on their careers.
The girls then took part in a team activity where they had to solve an energy problem with a sustainable solution.
Harris Girls' students designed a green eco-house which saved water and energy, bearing in mind that in 2015 the Earth will need 30% more water and 50% more energy to supply the nine billion people projected to live on earth.
The girls presented their idea in a pitch to a group of industry experts.
Students also had an opportunity to take part in interactive displays in the IBM Client Centre including 3D headsets and the Watson culinary computer.
We hope the girls will be inspired to continue their pursuit of STEM subjects academically and in their future careers.
