HGAED Achieves Fantastic Progress 8 Score of +0.83

Results day 2017 (10)Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich is incredibly proud of the exam results achieved by our students in 2016-17, which have recently been confirmed.

We achieved a provisional Progress 8 score of +0.83, meaning our girls achieved on average nearly a whole GCSE grade better than students of similar ability in schools nationally. The national average for Progress 8 was -0.03.

65% of students achieved 5A*-C grades including English and Maths at Grade 4+ – a strong performance given the new, more challenging English and Mathematics curriculum. Students now study more challenging texts in English, with no coursework, while in Maths there is greater emphasis on mathematical reasoning and problem solving.

52% of students achieved 5A*-C including English and Maths at Grade 5+ (compared to 39.1% nationally).

27% of students achieved a 7+ in English Literature (compared to 18.8% nationally).

Results day 2017 (4)

42% achieved the English Baccalaureate, which measures achievement in the core academic subjects. This is well above the national average. Our students are encouraged to take a broad and academic curriculum with all our students having the opportunity to study a humanities subject.

The average grade achieved by our students in 2016-17 was a very creditable B.

In science, more than half of the girls who took ‘triple’ science (biology, chemistry and physics) achieved an A*/A

An exceptional 100% of students who took the Latin GCSE received an A* or an A.

Carrie Senior, Principal of Harris Girl’s Academy East Dulwich (pictured top, right), said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the girls’ exceptional GCSE results. They are well deserved and a reflection of the hard work and dedication of both the students and staff. Despite the added challenge of the new marking system, the girls’ have gone above and beyond our expectations. I wish them all the very best of luck as they progress into sixth form and further education. Well done!”
