Tales on the Rye - New Bookshop Opens in School
Our new bookshop, Tales on the Rye, is now open offering children a wide range of books for sale in the heart of the school – from new fiction and classics to non-fiction and revision guides.
The bookshop, which is supported by Herne Hill bookshop Tales on Moon Lane, is run by our sixth form and offers discounts too. “We aim to provide children with a variety of books that they can read to expand their vocabulary and creativity and just for enjoyment,” says Amina. “I’ve always had an interest in reading books so providing students with an opportunity to read and widen their understanding of the world is really good.”
Management and leadership
The sixth formers are also learning management and leadership skills too. “We have to run the shop and make sure it opens and closes on time and be role models for younger students,” says Christabel.
As well as the bookshop, students have opened their own publishing business, Moon Lane Inc, to help them learn about the publishing and encourage greater diversity in the industry. Girls are currently working on a project that will see them write, design and publish their own graphic novels.
