Getting Up Close To 'Macbeth' At Shakespare's Globe
Year 11 students went to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on Bankside recently to see a production of Macbeth, which is their GCSE set Shakespeare text.
We had three coaches booked to take the year group, but at 9am we had a call to say that due to staff sickness and self-isolation the coach company would not be able to fulfil the contract.
Surely the superstitions surrounding ‘The Scottish Play’ couldn’t strike a school visit? Staff throughout the school sprang into action especially Ms Slater, Mr Mason, Mr Mansell, Ms Ramadan and Ms Francis, who called around coach hire companies. Thankfully they were successful and the old adage ‘the show must go on’ was maintained.
Students had the true Shakespearean experience, standing in the pit. The production was full of energy, with action through the audience. Students were thoughtful in their discussions after the performance, and all thought it was exciting to get see a production of the play, made even more exciting by being so close to the action.
