Lord Adonis quizzed by students
Lord Adonis, former Minister for Schools, gave a radio interview to our students when he visited the academy today to officially open our new Harris Wing.
The interview will be broadcast on the school’s radio station, Connect, and also on London youth radio station Reprezent, where our students produce a live show each fortnight.
Students asked him why he cares so much about education and how he became a Lord, as well as what he thought of the new Harris Wing.
‘These buildings are inspirational,’ said Lord Adonis, now Director of the Institute for Government. ‘You’ve got fantastic equipment in them – state-of-the-art IT and you own recording studio, for example.
‘But the buildings themselves don’t provide a good quality education, it’s the teachers, and you’ve got fantastic teachers here at the academy, and really motivated students.
'It’s giving the facilities to fantastic teachers and really motivated students that makes for an excellent school.’
Lord Adonis also found time to give top tips to interviewer Maria Sapalo, year 10, who is interested in going into politics. ‘I found it really educational and inspiring to hear just how much he cared about education,’ said Maria.
