Urban Debate League Season Starts
Harris Girls’ Debate Team make a strong start to the season.
Debate Mate Club members created three teams to compete in the first round of the Urban Debate League. Each team had two matches each against schools including hosts, Norwood School, Harris Beckenham and Grey Coat.
Team A won both of their matches, Team B lost both of their matches and Team C won both their matches.
At the end of next week initial rankings from the first round will be published. The highest score from all teams in each debate will be put together to create an average score i.e. if A team scores highest in the first debate and team B gets a higher score in the second debate, the average score will be from team A in debate one and team B in debate two.
The top 16 schools at the end of the second UDL round will move on to the national final.
Our more experienced Year 9 girls mentored our Year 7 students, who were feeling a little nervous. The two combined proved to be a brilliant combination!
Mr Barlow and our Debate Mate Mentor, Sophia will be coaching the girls until the next round, hoping we keep our minds sharp and our scores high.
Good luck girls!
