Students Attend John Harvard Lecture by Boris Johnson
A group of sixth form students attended the John Harvard Lecture at the Old Vic theatre on Thursday 17th March.
This year it was delivered by Boris Johnson, and was his last public engagement as Mayor of London
The John Harvard Lecture was established in 2007 with the aim of bringing to light some of the key issues within modern society, exploring the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom and celebrating the life and work of John Harvard, who was born in Southwark and lived in the borough before emigrating to the United States.
The lecture is given by internationally recognised speakers, addressing contemporary issues which develop the aspirational messages associated with Harvard and the priorities of the people of Southwark.
True to form Boris was not following a script and chose instead to give a wide ranging review of his eight years as Mayor. This was followed by a lively question and answer session.
We will be following this up with a discussion lunch to talk through issues raised and answer any questions students might have, prompted by the lecture.
